Amethyst Chip Bracelet

The Christmas of 2011, my husband gave me amethyst chips as part of my Christmas present. Since then, I’ve been somewhat stumped as to how to use them. For some reason, I have trouble figuring out suitable ways to use chip beads, I don’t know whether it’s due to their size or shape etc, but I have trouble coming up with designs that I really like.

So fast forward to earlier this year, and I saw a post about this amethyst chip bracelet, and I immediately loved the look of it. So I decided to make one for myself, but using a heart charm rather than the peace charm that’s shown in the link.

Monday Update – Event & New Items

I’ve got another event lined up for me to attend. It’s the Bastille Day Fair taking place at Hockley & Hawkwell Methodist Church in Hockley, Essex (SS5 4QY) on Saturday 14th July from 10am – 1pm.

I’m hoping that it will be a good day for all concerned, with some nice sunny weather – we can wish given how changeable the weather has been here recently. I’ll be taking along my new silver plated jewellery and bookmark items to sell at an event for the first time. Plus, I’ve developed a new item which I will also be taking to the event, and that you get to have a sneak peek at (see below).

Hair Clips!

These trefoil flower shapes come in a variety of colours ~ pink, blue, red, purple, gold/silver combination and orange are shown in the photos below. The gold/silver combination has 2 petals in gold with 1 in silver. (It’s also possible to have black, bronze or green petals which are not shown in the photos below).

Trefoil (3 Petal) Flower Snappy Hair Clip
Trefoil (3 Petal) Flower Snappy Hair Clip

These hair clips use a typical snappy/bendie/sleepies (depending upon what you like to call them) as the basis of the hair clip. Then I’ve utilised Chain Maille items, scale maille for the petals and chain maille rings to connect it all together. For those that don’t know, Chain Maille is the process of linking rings in patterns and was originally used as armour, but now-a-days is also used as a jewellery making technique.

These hair clips aren’t currently listed up on Etsy, but if they prove to be popular, then they’ll be added there too.

Magnetic Hematite Wrap Bracelets

Plus, last but not least, as I mentioned in last monday’s update, I’ve been adding magnetic wrap bracelets to my Etsy shop last week.

Monday Update – Flower Pendants & Magnetic Hematite Bracelets

As I stated in this post last month, I am adding a range of silver plated jewellery to my shop. The first items are crystal glass beads that I’ve wire wrapped to create flower shapes and added to a chain to create these lovely unique flower pendants.

Plus I have these bracelets in a wrap bracelet style that I will adding to my Etsy shop this coming week.

Back From Holiday

I’ve been slacking in making posts to this blog. However, that is due to spending a week away in Jersey for a summer holiday with my husband and little boy. We had a lovely time, it stayed fairly dry with quite a bit of blue sky and sunshine, although it was on the chilly side as it was windy. Although, that didn’t stop my little boy from enjoying digging on the beaches and paddling in the sea. The only downside to the holiday, was that I ended up getting a chest infection whilst we were away. I took my last antibiotic pill this morning thankfully, as those pills taste HORRIBLE! I’ve been busy catching up on all the washing that inevitably follows a long trip away, but at least the blue skies we’ve been having the past few days have been really sunny and warm, which has helped me get through the tonne of washing quicker.

Belated Tuesday Treasury

Obviously with being busy due to my holiday, I haven’t been creating any treasuries. However, I do have two to post that feature my jewellery items. The first features my golden jade necklace and the second treasury features my golden jade earrings with sunflower yellow Swarovski crystals.

Newest Item

Amethyst Sterling Silver Earrings

Amethyst Sterling Silver Earrings

These earrings consist of faceted rectangular amethyst semi-precious gemstones and sterling silver beads which hang off post earrings. These coordinate with my amethyst necklace and amethyst bracelet that were mentioned in previous posts (Sneak Peek & New Necklace and New Jewellery Items In Store & Next Event).

Amethyst is the birthstone for February and for the Zodiac sign Pisces (20 February – 20 March).

New Jewellery Items In Store & Next Event

In preparing for the Pamper Party Event that I attended at the end of last month, I made quite a number of new jewellery items. Unfortunately, the event was a lot quieter than hoped, and therefore only a small amount of people attended. So now I have lots of extra items to list in my Purple Wyvern Jewels shop. I have managed to photograph some of them and have been listing a few of them.

Pendants

Green Agate Pendant in Sterling Silver

Green Agate Pendant in Sterling Silver

I brought the green agate gemstone in this Green Agate Pendant in Sterling Silver from a fellow Etsy seller. I purchased two of these tear drop shaped agate stones. I was looking for something to turn in to a birthday present for my Mother-In-Law and whilst emerald is the modern birthstone for May, agate along with emerald is a traditional birthstone for May. Agate is also the birthstone for the Zodiac sign Gemini (21 May – 21 Jun). So I chose this agate stone due to it’s lovely green colour, as unfortunately emerald would have been too expensive for me to use for the present. One of these was given away as a gift and the other is currently available for purchase in my shop.

I have two more new pendants listed for sale in my shop, with a couple more yet to be photographed and listed. The first pendant features a dyed purplish red crazy lace agate gemstone. Although, this particular stone doens’t really have any purple tones to it, it has more of a red colouring with some white tones to it. The second pendant features a fire agate gemstone, which has tones of white, ivory, peach and orange to it, along with an unusual crackled pattern.

Bracelets

I have three new bracelets listed in my shop, with one more that I need to list. The first bracelet features small green agate tear drop shaped gemstones, that coordinate with my Green Agate Waterfall Necklace in Sterling Silver and Green Agate Wire Wrap Sterling Silver Earrings. The second bracelet features regtangular faceted amethyst gemstones with sterling silver beads, that coordinate with my Amethyst Wire Wrapped Sterling Silver Necklace. The last bracelet is a unisex wrap bracelet that features tiger coco beads.

Next Selling Event

I’ve been looking around for other local events to sell my jewellery at, and I’ve found a couple that are very local and happen on a regular/semi-regular basis, but unfortunately they are booked out at the moment. Hopefully spaces will become available for those at some point. In the meantime, I’ve found an Indoor Market over in Maldon, Essex that happens the first Saturday of each from 9am – 2.30pm. So on the 2nd July I will be there selling my wares.

Sneak Peek & New Necklace

Amethyst Necklace Wire Wrapped In Sterling Silver, February Birthstone Necklace

Amethyst Necklace Wire Wrapped In Sterling Silver, February Birthstone Necklace

The latest addition to my store is this amethyst necklace wire wrapped in sterling silver. It consists of faceted rectangular amethyst semi-precious gemstones, with the central amethyst accentuated on both sides by sterling silver beads. I really love the variety in these amethyst gemstones, as they vary from light to dark purple, semi-transparent to opaque and some have striped patterns to them.

Amethyst is the birthstone for February and for the Zodiac sign Pisces (20 February – 20 March).

I recently purchased some more gemstones. So here’s a quick sneak peek as to what will be featured in my store in the near future:

Crystal Quartz Blue & Rainbow Flourite Gemstones

I also have the same dagger style of crystal quartz in grey that is featured in the picture, as well as the blue. I chose the crystal quartz as I like the unusual shape, as it will make quite different and unique items of jewellery.

Something To Aspire Too

Tundra in Dark Brown Leather and Navajo Fabric

Tundra in Dark Brown Leather and Navajo Fabric by Hoakonhelga

I was reading this article earlier today on the Etsy Blog in their Quit Your Day Job series. The article was about Andi of Hoakonhelga. It really reinforced an idea for me that I’ve been struggling with, being unique.

Whilst in brick and mortar stores or online ones, most bags I see are made from one type of material, but Andi not only recycles materials, but mixes the type of materials she uses in her bag creations. For instance like this “Tundra in Dark Brown Leather and Navajo Fabric” (pictured on the right) is made from a vintage leather jacket and a Navajo blanket. Something that I find quite unique and is obviously a strong selling point for her.

Whilst I made the decision to create jewellery from sterling silver and semi-precious stones, to have the selling point of using higher quality materials compared to costume jewellery that uses silver-plated materials. I still don’t feel I am offering potential buyers something unique. The difficult point for me is to know what buyers like or want, as I’m not getting the sales in that I can look at my stock and say that type of item is selling and that isn’t. Another way I can try to find that type of information is via item views and items that have been favourited.

Even though I currently have a small sample of data to work with, it appears that pendants and semi-precious stones are favoured over necklaces, earrings, bracelets and glass/crystal stones. However, that still doesn’t help me identify what can help make me unique, and allow me to stand out from other sellers. I can foresee that it’s going to take me quite some time to figure out my niche area is, and therefore to find my uniqueness in order to differentiate myself from other sellers making and selling similar items to myself.
