Two Year Anniversary

Purple Wyvern Jewels is now two years old. It’s changed and grown in ways I hadn’t forseen when I started this business. I regularly try to add new product items, even try out different product ranges. Some ideas work, others haven’t proved to be quite so successful. However, that’s the good thing about running your own business you can try out different ideas, keep what works for you and drop the things that don’t.

I love the fact that not only are my items going to customers within the UK, but they get to travel all over the world. I’ve had products sold to customers in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Martinique, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and to the USA.

Over the next year, I plan on adding more items to my existing product ranges, and trying out a few completely new product ideas as well. I’m also going to look at a couple of different online selling venues, to try and expand my online customer base. Plus, I’m looking forward to seeing which new countries my items will fly of to next.

Something A Little Bit Different

Predominately the items that I currently create are centred around charms and macrame jewellery. So I thought I would add something a little bit different in to my Etsy store….

Happy New Year

Welcome to the year 2014. Happy New Year!

I can’t believe it’s been May since I last posted here. I’ve been kept busy. My little boy, who isn’t quite so little anymore, started school in September. So that gave me some extra time to enable me to work more on my range of items. I’ve been adding lots of new items to my online stores, particularly charm jewellery and charm keyrings, and I’ve been adding to my PDF tutorial range too. So do check out purplewyvernjewels.co.uk and purplewyvernjewels.etsy.com to see my current range of items.

2013 was a great year for my business. I not only broke even on my business but also, my Etsy shop sales really took off, with December being my best ever month! I can’t wait to see what 2014 will look like, and what it brings for Purple Wyvern Jewels.

One New Year’s resolution I have is to get back at updating this blog more regularly, so there is at least one post a month as to what is happening with Purple Wyvern Jewels.

Amethyst Chip Bracelet

The Christmas of 2011, my husband gave me amethyst chips as part of my Christmas present. Since then, I’ve been somewhat stumped as to how to use them. For some reason, I have trouble figuring out suitable ways to use chip beads, I don’t know whether it’s due to their size or shape etc, but I have trouble coming up with designs that I really like.

So fast forward to earlier this year, and I saw a post about this amethyst chip bracelet, and I immediately loved the look of it. So I decided to make one for myself, but using a heart charm rather than the peace charm that’s shown in the link.

February 2013 Update

It’s been a tad too long since I last updated, I must try to get back in to the habit of blogging more regularly.

Christmas Event

So to catch up from where I last left off, the Winter Fayre I attended at the end of November was a wonderful success, it was packed and was busy the entire time.

Christmas Sales

The Christmas buying season online, was better than I had expected. I even tried out Folksy in the run up to the Christmas season to see whether that would be another possible venue through which to sell. Although I did get one sale through Folksy, I was quite disappointed by the visitor stats, as they were very low and not what I had expected. Whilst I expected views to be lower than Etsy (as Etsy is more widely known worldwide) than Folksy, I didn’t expect a lower amount of views than my own web site obtains. So I’m not currently impressed with Folksy, although it’s a venue I will keep my eye on as it is targeted towards the UK market, whereas in comparison Etsy is very US targeted.

Community Pop Up Shop

The Community Pop Up Shop that I sell items through in Chelmsford town centre closed at the end of December. However, it has now reopened, yay! So my items have now been restocked there, plus it’s back in it’s original location.

Monday Update

It’s been a while since I did an update, so I’ve got a number of new things to share, including events, shop locations, and new items.

Christmas Event

In a month’s time, I’m attending a Winter Fayre Event, which I’m hoping will be a fun one to do as it is the first Christmas event I’ve done. I had hoped to attend a few more events. However, there is a bit of competition with spaces for jewellery stalls at events, as a number of them restrict the amount of similar stalls at an event, and unfortunately I haven’t been lucky enough to obtain a stall at those events.

Community Pop Up Shop

The local Community Pop Up Shop moved location at the beginning of this month. They’re still based at the High Chelmer Shopping Centre but in a slightly different location, just round the corner. The volunteers did a fantastic job of moving everything in to the new shop, and managed to complete the move in a couple of hours. Items are now arranged over two floors, with the top floor predominately showcasing local painters and downstairs predominately showcasing local crafters.

My items are situated on a table by the window that’s covered in the red tablecloth. Since they moved in to their new location, I’ve added a larger range of items for sale in their shop.

New Items

First up, out of my new creations, is a silver plated necklace I created with beads received in my surprise package, and is currently for sale in the Community Pop Up Shop.

I’ve added two new macramé bracelets, and there will be more on the way in the future, as I keep on having ideas for other styles I would like to create.

The fishbone knot bracelet is created using square knots, but due to the order of how the threads are tied, creates a different look compared to a standard square knot bracelet.

Lastly, I’ve extended my range of hair accessories to include hair barettes, which are currently for sale in the Community Pop Up Shop.

A Surprise Package

Yesterday the postman knocked at my door to deliver a package. Now, I hadn’t been expecting one, as I hadn’t brought anything online recently. So obviously curious I opened it up, to find lots of bubble wrap and underneath…

Beads Direct - Beading Games Competition

Beads Direct ran a competition around the theme of the Olympic Games rings, seeing as the Olympics were being held in the UK this summer. Created items had to have at least one of the olympic ring colours in them and there were several different categories: mixed media, wire work, stringing and seed bead. I decided to enter, and entered my Black Spider Web Jasper Sterling Silver Necklace in to the stringing category, which I came in second place. So the surprise package I received was my prize, which included a silver engraved medal.
